Privacy
Short version: today we collect almost nothing.
- Calculator answers stay in your browser. The numbers you enter are worked out on your device and are not sent to us.
- No accounts, no sign-up, and no advertising trackers on the site at this time.
- Visit counts. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and to see which pages are used and how fast they load. Cloudflare says its Web Analytics does not use any client-side state, such as cookies or localStorage, to collect usage metrics, and that it does not fingerprint individuals via their IP address, User Agent string or any other data for the purpose of displaying analytics. It records page views, the site that referred you, your country, browser, operating system and device type, and page load performance. Cloudflare processes this under its privacy policy.
- Hosting logs. The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes standard technical information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare's Workers Logs feature is turned off for this site.
- AI assistant tools keep only daily usage totals. Details below.
AI assistant tools
Free Calculator offers sourced, dated cost ranges from our calculators (such as water heater replacement, foundation repair and AC replacement) and official figures we keep up to date (such as state electricity prices) to AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude, through a connector at https://freecalculator.website/mcp. When an assistant uses it, the assistant's servers send us the details the calculation needs (for example a project type, a size or a US state, or, for the Medicare IRMAA figure, a tax filing status and an income amount). We use those details only to answer that one request. We don't store them, log them, or link them to you. The "what were you quoted?" box is on our website only, never in the AI tool.
What we keep: daily totals only. For each day we count how many times each tool was used, which kind of assistant app it came from (ChatGPT, Claude or other), whether it worked, a rough count of results (none, one, two or three, or four or five), and how many visits came to our site from links in the answers (those links end in ?ref=agentand the tool's name). We also keep a few housekeeping totals per day: how many requests our limits turned away, how often an out-of-date figure was held back, and how often a few particular answers were served (to spot copying). The totals contain no questions, names, IP addresses or browser details, so they can't be traced to a person. We keep the daily totals for as long as the site runs. If the site is ever sold, they pass to the new owner.
Who else handles it: our host, Cloudflare, runs the connector and processes each request to deliver it. To stop abuse, Cloudflare's rate limiter counts requests per IP address for about a minute; we don't store that count. The assistant app you use (for example ChatGPT or Claude) has its own privacy policy for what you type into it. We don't sell or share anything from these requests, and the tools show no ads.
Your choices: there are no accounts, and nothing we keep can be linked to you, so there is nothing to look up or delete. You can stop using the connector at any time in your assistant's settings.

Before we add any contact form or call line
If we add a way to request quotes or call a pro, this page will be updated first to say exactly what is collected, who receives it, how long it is kept, and how to ask for it to be deleted. Nothing you type into a contact form will be shared without you asking for it on that form.
